Generations come together at Bayview

bayview_slcHow many articles have you read about the disintegration of the family unit being a major cause of everything that is wrong with America today? Seattle’s Bayview retirement community has perhaps created an early-stage solution: a unique environment that brings pre-schoolers in for daycare and a healthy dose of senior love and wisdom.

Designed to build stronger connections between young and old, Bayview’s Children Center encourages interaction between its residents and children ages three months to five years. According to Jane Schooley, Bayview’s director of Intergenerational Child Care, this has multiple benefits:

  • It fosters a positive attitude towards age and disability in children
  • It helps seniors feel valued and connected to the community
  • It raises awareness of the value of community through nurturing children and caring for their elderly in one place

The Bayview Intergenerational Children's Center can serve up to 42 children and is open Monday thru Friday from 7:00 am to 6:00 pm.
